Algorithmic thinking and imagination are among the competences that our children need to succeed in their lives and careers as they prepare for the future.
Algorithmic thinking plays a role in the development of characteristics such as easily overcoming difficulties and not giving up, while making it easier to find a path to solve a problem or achieve a goal.
Imagination, on the other hand, is, in the words of Albert Einstein, “the only thing more important than knowledge”.
In recent years, digital games, which are part of learning, communication and social skills, have become an area where algorithmic thinking and imagination meet.
In order to provide basic education to our children about these issues, we held the ‘Game Coding Workshop’ of the program Child Inventors organized in partnership with TUSAŞ and Bilim Virüsü together with 200 children at two different times.
In the Game Coding Workshop, we designed a digital game for 3 weeks with children from 2 different age groups.
In the workshop, the children were introduced to basic coding on the Scratch platform. The participants who designed their characters in their own world discovered how to make a digital game and build relationships by means of STEAM programs.
